I inherited the apartment from my parents. The neighborhood is great, but the building itself is a bit dated, so a major renovation was necessary to make it comfortable and up to modern standards.
Insects
Due to old utility lines, bugs and mosquitoes sometimes appear in basements during the summer. Pest control services have to be called in periodically.
Security
I installed a good, secure door. The building is mostly inhabited by long-time residents, so I'm not particularly worried about the apartment's security.
Neighbors
Half the residents are pensioners who've been here since the building was built, and the other half are tenants. It's generally quiet, with no conflicts or loud parties.
Noise
The walls are thick, and you can barely hear your neighbors next door. But if you open the window, the noise from Al-Farabi and Dostyk Avenues is quite loud; there's no escaping it.
Renovation
I did the renovations myself, replacing old wiring and leveling the floors. I installed good German-made sound-insulated windows to block out as much street noise as possible.
View
The window overlooks huge, mature trees and a plethora of greenery. The mountains are barely visible behind them, but in summer, there's plenty of shade and the rooms aren't so hot.
About the building
General
The house is sturdy and earthquake-resistant, built with care back in Soviet times. But the utilities and entrances require serious updating; the years have taken their toll.
Cleanliness
The housing cooperative does a good job; the entrances are cleaned and trash is collected regularly. However, the distinctive smell of old housing is still slightly noticeable on the ground floors.
Security
The intercom works, but the courtyard is a walk-through area. During the day, employees from neighboring business centers and delivery drivers often use it as a shortcut.
Yard
The courtyard is very green, with large trees, and it feels like you're walking in a park. However, the playground is outdated, and there aren't enough benches to rest.
Parking
Parking is a constant problem. During the day, the place is jammed with cars from people who work nearby, and in the evening, locals fight for every space. Sometimes you have to park quite far from home.
About the district
General
The area is one of the best places to live, with all amenities literally within walking distance. However, the constant traffic jams and city bustle can be tiring at times.
Cleanliness
The streets are well maintained, and the central lawns are watered. Overall, the area looks very well-kept and clean, making it pleasant to stroll.
Security
The area is prestigious, and police patrol the streets frequently. It's quite safe to walk in the evening, and the lighting works well.
Beauty
There's plenty of greenery, and the old Soviet architecture blends harmoniously with the new modern buildings. The area feels cozy.
Parks
Nearby is the Terrenkur Alley, a great place for long walks along the river. There are also small parks nearby.
